To Real

I am a Maker - of words, of film, of wood and of plastic. My passion is creation, and 3-D printing has the unique ability to quickly bring ideas to life. We can now go from thought to physical reality in a matter of hours.
For example, we recently bought a vacuum cleaner which has a hose and crevice tool. But even fully extended, you can't reach the ceiling to get to spiderwebs. I measured the hose inner diameter and the crevice tool outer diameter and took those measurements into tinkercad.com where I was able to design an extension tube in a just a few minutes. I downloaded the extension tube .stl file and brought it into my 3-D slicing software which produced the .gcode file necessary for my 3-D printer. I loaded up some nice metallic looking silk PLA filament into the printer, and less than an hour later I was holding the extender in my hand. What was an idea in my head only two hours ago is now a real, physical object I can use to solve a problem.
My goal with Brainstorm Fabrication is to offer unique, custom-made products to fulfill a need or a desire. 3-D printing offers the opportunity to produce one off, custom made products which are made to order at a reasonable cost.

Computers made possible desktop publishing, which revolutionized the printing industry. Then desktop editing, which revolutionized the video industry, and now desktop 3-D printing which promises revolutions in not only object production, but housing and eventually organ replacement. We're still a couple of centuries away from Star Trek's replicators, but it all starts here.
